Hidden Gems & Secret Beaches

For the past few years, Tourism Revelstoke has implemented an Approved Locations List, a vital part of our destination management strategy designed to balance tourism growth with the preservation of our local environment. This initiative was developed in response to growing concerns over certain popular spots that, after gaining traction on social media, saw a surge in visitor numbers, leading to environmental degradation and strain on infrastructure.

In collaboration with local land management groups, BC Parks and Rec, Parks Canada, and input from the community, the list identifies locations that can accommodate sustained or increased tourism, while protecting others that can’t accommodate increased visitation or are valued as local spots. By doing so, we ensure that our region continues to thrive as a tourist destination while respecting the wishes of local residents and safeguarding our natural spaces.

Although the Approved Locations List has been in place for several years, this is the first time we are sharing the initiative with the broader community. We believe it’s important that residents understand how we are managing tourism responsibly. Every media guest and influencer visiting Revelstoke receives this list, so their content highlights locations that have the infrastructure to handle increased attention.

This initiative is about finding a balance—preserving the places we love while welcoming the world to experience the beauty of Revelstoke. As our region continues to grow, so does our responsibility to protect what makes it so special, ensuring that both locals and visitors can enjoy it for years to come.
